At least 30 injured when the floor of a convent collapses during a wedding in Tuscany

At least 30 people were injured Saturday in Italy when the first floor of an old convent where a wedding was taking place collapsed, authorities said.

Five of the injured are in critical condition after the collapse of this 15th-century building near Pistoia, north of Florence, according to Tuscany’s regional governor, Eugenio Giani.

About 60 people were dancing in the room on the first floor of the former Giaccherino convent, used as a restaurant and event location, when the floor collapsed, causing guests to fall into the room below, from a height of about five metres, according to reports. The Italian media.

The governor reported on Telegram that more than 100 rescuers, including firefighters and police, responded to the scene of the accident.
