Russia-Ukraine war, LIVE: latest news on the conflict in Eastern Europe

Deadly airstrikes in Ukraine and on the Russian border

Russia fired a new barrage of missiles at Ukraine on Tuesday, killing at least five people, while Ukrainian attacks in Belgorod, a border region with Russia, left at least one dead.

According to the Ukrainian military, Russia fired 99 missiles, 72 of which were shot down by its anti-aircraft defenses. Russia said it shot down nine Ukrainian missiles over the border town of Belgorod.

The Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and the eastern city of Kharkiv came less than 24 hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to step up his offensive following a Ukrainian attack of unprecedented force on Belgorod.

At least five people were killed and 119 injured, Ukrainian authorities said.
